A German delegation led by Gunther Krichbaum, chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for EU Affairs, held meetings at the Turkish Parliament on Wednesday as part of their fact finding mission.

Turkish Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee acting chairman Mehmet Ceylan, who met with members of the visiting delegation, said Turkey and Germany have always displayed solidarity.

Ceylan said at times there were negative developments between the two countries such as the arson attacks against the residences of Turkish citizens in Germany.

Ceylan said that integration of Turks living in Germany to the German society was very important. He also added that Turkey encourages Turkish citizens to learn German language.

Krichbaum in return said that the fire which broke out in a house in Ludwigshafen city killing nine Turks stemmed from a technical failure and not because of hostility against Turks. He added that a Turkish team took part in the investigation which was carried out regarding the fire.

Referring to Migration Law in Germany, Krichbaum said that Germany wanted foreigners' be integrated into the society and not be assimilated.

Krichbaum said that Turkey would join EU after it met required criteria adding that Germany supported Turkey on this issue.

The visiting delegation also met with Turkey-Germany Interparliamentary Friendship Group chairman Mustafa Unal.
