A senior Turkish miliary official lamented that some friend and ally countries of Turkey have helped the terrorist organization PKK and warned that "terrorism may one day hurt them too."

Lt. Gen. Hilmi Akin Zorlu, head of Turkish General Staff's Planning and Principles Department, told a conference of American-Turkish Council in Washington that Turkey will continue military s against the PKK militants and thanked American military officials for their support over Turkey's fight against PKK.

He said nearly 3,000 PKK terrorists have taken shelter in the north of Iraq, adding that these militants can move freely, take medical treatment in hospitals in this region and that the existence of the terrorist organization was based on the support provided in the north of Iraq.

"Unfortunately, we can see that some friend and ally countries support the PKK. We would like to warn them as a friend. Terrorism may one day hurt them too," he said.

Pointing out the cooperation between Turkey and United States on defense industry projects, Zorlu denied reports claiming that Turkey was prejudiced against American companies in defense industry tenders. He said restrictive American policies did not allow several American companies to participate in Turkish defense industry tenders, citing U.S. export licence on defense industry products.

Another speaker of the conference, U.S. Lt. Gen. John Sattler, head of Strategic Plans and Policy of Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that U.S. closely cooperates with Turkey against the PKK. Sattler said U.S. military will continue to work together.
