Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hit Israel hard on Sunday saying the Israelis were using disproportional violence against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip killing civilians including children.

“We simply cannot explain the attacks against people in humanitarian terms. There is no legal basis for these attacks. As the Turkish Republic we are condemning the attitude of Israel in very clear terms.â€

Prime Minister Erdogan said when Turkey launched similar operations against the PKK in northern Iraq it did not target or harm even a single civilian. He said this is the result of the sensitivity displayed by the Turkish Republic and its armed forces.

He said the issue will be taken up at the cabinet session on Monday and necessary steps will be taken.

He said Turkey had appealed to Israel to solve the problem through diplomatic means but the Israelis did not even respond.
