"Islam is a religion that encourages peace. It will never allow acts of terror since it considers killing of a person killing of humanity. No one can say that Islam allows terrorism. Somebody's wrongdoing cannot be blamed on Islam," Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday.

Her was addressing the iftar dinner hosted by the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party in honor of ambassadors in Ankara.

Addressing the ambassadors after the dinner, Prime Minister Erdogan said, "today, democracy is more powerful in Turkey in all its dimensions. We are determined to take all necessary steps to make Turkey a more modern country. We are living through a period in which significant changes and developments occur in the world. Turkey also faces important tests because of its unique position between the east and the west. We pursue a multidimensional and constructive policy with our democratic and secular political system, our sound free market economy and our social tradition. Our policy aims at setting up good relations with the other countries."

"Our target is to create a regional and international atmosphere that will provide stable and humanitarian development in peace and prosperity. Turkey will fulfill its responsibilities to this end," he said.

Prime Minister Erdogan stressed, "weapons of mass destruction should be eliminated in the whole world. While the total money spent for armament amounts to 1 trillion USD, there is a terrorism stemming from poverty and ignorance in some countries including African countries. There is no global effort to stop this."

"We know that the process is difficult, but Turkey is sincere as regards its aspiration on EU membership," he told the ambassadors.

Erdogan said the government is determined to implement the reforms on the way to full membership to the EU which he said is a priority for Turkey's foreign policy.

Noting that Turkey will pursue its efforts, Erdogan said that however, if a political obstacle is put regarding a chapter heading, it will be very saddening for Turkey. He added that Turkey has met every requirement in the process.

He said that if EU will be the home of peace, love and alliance of civilizations, it has to accept Turkey as a member.

Regarding the initiative on Alliance of Civilizations (which is co-chaired by Erdogan and Spanish Premier), Erdogan said that the initiative aims to ease harmony and dialogue by underlining a common basis between cultures and religions. Erdogan also said that the support of international community is very important to get the desired results from this initiative.

Meanwhile AK Party Deputy Chairman for Foreign Affairs Egemen Bagis who hosted the iftar dinner said Turkey has acquired many things thanks to the AK Party being in power and will continue to gain more. "The AK Party has been broadening the base of democracy in Turkey." AK Party Deputy Chairman for Foreign Affairs Egemen Bagis said on Wednesday.

Speaking following the dinner, Bagis said, "in the 21st century, the world has faced a difficult test about harmony of religions and civilizations. As Turkey, we want to make the most positive and constructive contribution to this process."

"We are giving an important message to the world with our strengthening democracy and our people's will. We say that you can live your religious beliefs, freedoms and democracy at the same time. Turkey has acquired many things thanks to the AK Party's political power and will continue to gain more. The AK Party has been broadening the base of democracy in Turkey," Bagis stressed.
