Twenty Kurdish independent deputies who were elected from the eastern and southeastern provinces on Monday joined the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP).

The DTP is expected to apply to the Parliament on Tuesday to form a parliamentary group. This will be the fourth parliamentary group after the Justice and Democracy (AK) Party, the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

The leader of the independents Ahmet Turk was formerly the chairman of the DTP. He quit before the elections and became an independent.

The DTP aware that it will not pass the ten percent threshold changed tactics for the July 22 elections and fielded independents. He tactic proved successful and the party managed to win 22 seats through the independents.

It was no surprise that the independents joined the DTP after the polls.

DTP sources say soon the party will hold an extraordinary convention and elect Turk as its chairman.
