The mainstream media that targeted Erdogan

Once again the mainstream media whose bosses want to put an end to the current government because it has effectively finished off their system of plunder and corruption is targeting the government. Erdogan should not complain because he was deceived by their overtures.

Once again the notorious media controlled by certain interest groups under the disguise of "protecting the secularist system" is hard at work.

It seems Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan felt he had tamed this media but he was wrong. These newspapers and TV stations controlled by those who are suffering because Erdogan and his Justice and Development (AK) Party put an end to the system of plunder, nepotism, favoritism and corruption are out for revenge.

They tried to hit back at Erdogan last May when the AK Party tried to elect Abdullah Gul as president and failed. This media once again rallied behind the so-called secularist forces and hoped the military would act against the AK Party. But Erdogan and his colleagues managed to usher Turkey into early elections and the plot failed.

The plot did not only fail but the media was deeply embarrassed when Erdogan won an overwhelming majority in the elections that silenced the mainstream media and its supporters. They were all red faced.

The editors of these newspapers once again tried to befriend the prime minister and the ruling party. They knew well that their own system of corruption and plunder would be brought under the magnifying glass if they went too far. They all have some sort of dealings with the state and in most cases they have serious defects.

But now we see that the same newspaper owners and editors are back at work trying to exploit the headscarf issue to weaken the government and thus find a way to dispose of it.

The main opposition seems to be actively lobbying for a military coup and the notorious section of the press that has also promoted coups in the past are hard at work

These are the people who ganged up openly with the military in 1997 to oust the elected government of Necemettin Erbakan (Abdullah Gul was state minister in that cabinet and Tayyip Erdogan was the mayor of Istanbul). They come out in the midst of controversies and try to exploit the confusion.

This is why the prime minister is targeting the media as well as the min opposition in his latest criticism.

The prime minister has to be morecareful about his approach to the press… He has to identify his real enemies and his true friends.
